Turner Challenging Pioneers Ahead Of Week 9

The Warren County Pioneers look to snag their first win of the season Friday against Tullahoma and head coach Matt Turner said the team is refreshed and renewed after last week’s bye.

It will be 14 days between games for the Pioneers and Turner said the week off could not have come at a better time. Turner said the team has been banged up recently and noted an increased energy from his players following their return to team activities.

“We came in on Sunday and the kids seemed to have a little pep in their step,” Turner said. “And anxious to get back at it and we got a good little opportunity this week with Tullahoma to see if we can’t get a footing and finish this season up strong.”

Tullahoma is on a two game win streak and are 4-3 on the season. Turner said in years past before these two programs were on each other’s schedules, they used to conduct joint practices and scrimmages together. He said this is a program he respects.

“It seems like they’ve always got good, blue collar kids,” Turner said. “And they execute well, Coach Sisk does a great job, he was under Coach Olive all those years. And they just execute.”

Turner said Friday’s game will be a bittersweet outing for his team as former Pioneer Creed Adams will be suiting up for Tullahoma. Adams family moved from Warren County this past year and Turner said it will be bizarre seeing a player that he saw grow up make plays against his team.

In their last time out against Green Hill, Turner said the team played a solid first quarter and said it was awesome to see his players go out there an have fun. The Pioneers were not able to sustain that the whole game, so Turner said he had a blunt conversation with his team.

“That was our challenge this week, let’s put two of those quarter together and that’ll turn into half,” Turner said. “And then, let’s hit the reset and try to do it again in the second half and just see what happens. So, they are getting there and they are getting that taste of competition.”
