Livingston Academy graduate Josh Scott considers himself a grass snob, one reason he gained so much satisfaction this year as Livingston Academy’s volunteer groundskeeper.
Scott has stuck by the program since he graduated in 2009. Last year, he joined Albert Jenkins, Danny Massengille and Mark Ogletree as the grounds crew for LA football. He said it has turned into a passion.
“It’s just a labor of love, again I think the more people involved the better,” Scott said. “It only helps our program and when the kids see that and get to go out and play on it on Friday nights they know they have something that’s safe and sound and it gives them a sense of pride as well.”
Scott said he put about 10-12 hours a week into the field. He said that the town of Livingston has been so good to him, that he wants to pay it back with creating a beautiful field for the Hog-Eye faithful.
“It’s just about wanting to leave your mark,” Scott said. “Wanting to leave a little bit of a legacy, something that somebodies proud of. And just to have a little bit of an influence if anything.”
Scott said the reason he is doing this work is not about him and that doing this volunteer work is something he loves doing. He also takes pride in how the field looks under the Friday night lights.
“And of course the natural grass, Bermuda, that’s the one thing that I am really proud of,” Scott said. “I feel like we have the best natural grass facilities in the Upper Cumberland and I’m biased of course.”
