Dogwood Fountain Repaired, Open 3 Weeks

Dogwood Park’s fountain has been fully repaired and is ready to finish out its season through the end of the month.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the fountain’s main bowl was only shut down for one day but its deck jets needed a couple more to repair. Woods said he is not concerned about any more issues with the fountain in the near future.

“It is about twelve years old now so there’s no guarantee,” Woods said. “But we’ve done a lot of work on it and it’s operational and functioning properly and I think it, expect it to be next spring when we turn it back on.”

Woods said they are glad the fountain was repaired in time for families to enjoy it over fall break. Woods said it will close October 28 so it can be winterized and prepared for holiday events.

“We’ll have our treat trail that goes through the park on Halloween, October 31,” Woods said. “And then of course around Thanksgiving we’ll start putting up our Christmas tree that covers the fountain.”

Woods said the fountain was closed down after an unsecured lid let water into the pump housing and some of the pumps got submerged.

“This was just a part that was one of the seals where we have to take the lids off there every day to be able to clean and replace filters as needed,” Woods said.

Woods said this frequent use can wear down the older parts of the fountain and thereby cause damage to the rest of the structure.

“This ring basically that secured the lid in place failed and allowed water to come through that tank and fill the pump house,” Woods said.

Woods said they had to order the necessary part and have it shipped it but the repair process went well after that.
