Gainesboro Installs Adaptive Swing At Park

The City of Gainesboro has installed an adaptive swing set at Gainesboro City Park to make the park more accessible.

Gainesboro Alderwoman Beth Young said the city was able to add the swing to the park after receiving a $1,500 grant from Citizens Bank to address needs within the city. Young said previously special needs children could access the park but had nothing to do in the park.

“The ability to allow a child no matter their need to come in and play in a park and see them smile and enjoy themselves there is no amount of money that will ever replace a child’s smile,” Young said.

Young said the swing set came in under budget and now the city has received an additional $500 to provide more access to the park. Young said she would like the city to continue making improvements at the park to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

“I would love to be able to review some catalogs for ADA equipment and see what we can find that would best meet the needs of our citizens and our children,” Young said. “There are so many different sensory equipment and adaptive equipment that could be used for our park.”

Young said the swing set is another step in improving the city of Gainesboro.

“Our goal is to help this city grow and prosper,” Young said. “But also maintain its quaint and quietness at the same time. Also, help our children. Teach our children that we are here for them and that they play such a vital role in our community.”

Young said the city could not have made the addition without the friends and family at Citizens Bank.
