Voter Registration Deadline Monday

Monday is the last day to get registered for the November Presidential Election.

White County Administrator of Elections Sherry Anderson said there are multiple ways for people to vote such as registering online through the Secretary of State’s website, mail a registration form, or register in person at the elections office. Anderson said the process to register to vote is fairly easy.

“It is a half page that you fill out with information,” Anderson said. “In White County, you fill the form out, we load your information into the computer to generate a registration card, and as our policy, we mail those registration cards out to verify your address.”

Anderson said there are a few requirements like being a U.S. citizen, a Tennessee resident, and 18 years of age on the day of the election. Anderson if you mail in your registration form be sure to postmark the date before the deadline date. Anderson said there is not a particular best way to register and that all avenues are viable options.

“If you’ve been convicted of a felony you’re eligibility to register is going to depend on what you were convicted of and you’re conviction date,” Anderson said.  “You can learn more about that process and whether or not you would qualify by going on the Secretary of State’s website.”

Anderson said with the upcoming election White County has seen an uptick in registration.

“We have been very busy with registration,” Anderson said. “We have probably had at least a fourth more right before this election than we did with the August election.”
