Sean Of The South Arrives In Cookeville

Sean Dietrich also known as “Sean of the South” is performing this Thursday at the Cookeville Performance Arts Center.

Dietrich is a writer and comedian who tells stories while playing music. Dietrich said his call to the stage came when he attended an event at a library where he told multiple stories from his ten-year writing career.

“People were standing on the sidewalks and I had such a wonderful time being embraced by all these different people that I just started getting calls to do it again and again and so that was about ten years ago,” Dietrich said. “It developed into kind of a one-man act if you will and it has taken me to a lot of different places.”

Dietrich said he tells stories about his life growing up and his crazy family. Dietrich said performing in the South has a different feeling compared to the North as many people in the South relate to his stories.

“Everybody laughs because they are inside jokes,” Dietrich said. “We all look at each other in the audience because we know of a person like that or our aunt is just like that, but when you take it up north they still laugh but they are laughing right at you like are they really that crazy down there.”

Dietrich said he realized he was a bad salesman when trying to sell boy scout cookies. Dietrich said he would tell people to not buy them which made people want to buy them. Dietrich said stories like that get people to reflect on their life growing up and remember the best parts of growing up.

“Hopefully, you will feel like a nine-year-old again at least for a very short time until your hip starts hurting,” Dietrich said. “Hopefully, you’ll walk away and remember things like cover dish suppers, vacation bible school, all-night singings, boy scouts, little league baseball, skating rinks, and things like that.”

Sean of the South will be performing on Thursday, September 19th at the Cookeville Performance Arts Center. The show will begin at 7:00pm and doors will open at 6:30pm. Tickets are available online.
