The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass are set to begin a concert series in Crossville starting Sunday.
The series will be four separate concerts with three of those being at Stone Memorial High School’s auditorium. President and Founder Dwight Wages said the concert will consist of pieces like cartoon classics and Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.”
“I’ve been playing the horn since fifth grade,” Wages said. “I’m 77 years old so that’s a long time and I’ve enjoyed playing in a brass band. It’s a unique ensemble that you won’t hear unless you live in a major metropolitan city.”
Wages said the theme of the concert is called “Traveling Brass” as they will be joined by another brass band from Huntsville, Alabama. Admission is $22 per adult while students get in free.
Wages said he started the band 17 years ago and has made a lot of contacts with other brass bands over the years.
“People travel up to three and a half hours just to come to a rehearsal one way,” Wages said. “So I’m always looking for extra people because I can put them on the roster as a sub and then work them into the group.”
Wages said his band is professional and will not disappoint as the concert is designed for people of all ages.

The Traveling Brass concert will begin at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 15th. The next concerts will be “Brasstacular Moments” on Sunday, February 16th, and “Lollipops and Cracker Jacks” on Sunday, May 4th.
