Livingston Non-Profit Completes 4th Home

A local affordable housing non-profit has completed its fourth home in Livingston, targeting veterans, first responders, and first-time buyers.

Assurance Development & Management Corporation recently built a 1,064-square-foot home on East 7th Street. President Tom Stephens said the organization has expanded its goals from its 2014 founding.

“When we started we felt very strongly about our veterans,” Stephens said. “We have been very fortunate that we have had two of the homes sold to veterans and we are very proud of that. We are able to help assist them to get into really some of them as a first-time home buyer.”

Applications are currently being accepted for the completed home. Board Member Ken Mabery said the houses are being built through loans the non-profit has taken from banks. Mabery said the non-profit is hoping to partner with the Tennessee Housing Development Agency next year in an attempt to make homes more affordable.

“We’ve started kind of lining up with THDA in hopes of 2025 ADAM will start going after some grant dollars to maybe even offset some the construction cost and be able to make these homes even more affordable.”

Mabery is also the Executive Director of the Livingston Housing Authority. Mabery said the house built on East 7th Street is part of an initiative of the housing authority to develop as the area had multiple properties that needed to be renovated several years ago.

“It’s kind of went hand in hand that the whole area over here I think has come a long way in the last seven to ten years,” Mabery said.

Mabery said when they sell the house to someone who needs it usually the closing is emotional not only for the buyer but also for the non-profit as well. Stephens said the non-profit wants to continue building houses and is looking to finish road construction on East 7th Street before building another house.
