Tennessee Tech building excitement for students’ return to town with its annual Spirit Days Celebration.
Director of Marketing Promotions and Events Shanna Muncy said the university has done Spirit Days for over 20 years. Muncy said this year features limited edition yard signs that represent the 100th anniversary of Tech becoming the Golden Eagles.
“Spirit Days is developed because the first day back students want that hometown feel,” Muncy said. “The businesses love our students. They love the student population, the faculty, and the staff, so it is really to encourage excitement to just welcome them back for the start of the school year.”
Tech’s Sprit Days will continue into September and feature a competition where students represent the school’s mascot Awesome Eagle from past decades. Muncy said participation in Spirit Days is shown all over Cookeville.
“Students, staff, faculty, community, and everyone participates in this event,” Muncy said. “You can go through residential subdivisions and see our spirit signs in people’s front lawns. you will see it in front of businesses. You will see the students wearing purple and gold welcoming back students and welcoming the new students as part of our university community.”
Muncy said Spirit Days has been successful and that this event is the best way to kick off the school year.
“What better way to welcome back new and returning students and faculty each year than to introduce them to the companies and the people who support them within our community,” Muncy said.
Limited edition yard signs will be available at Crawford Alumni Center inside the Varsity Building and the University Bookstore inside the Roaden University Center. Signs are also available at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce in the Leslie Town Centre.
