Livingston has hired Walter Rutherford as the new codes enforcement officer and building inspector for the city.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the role needed to be filled as their previous officer recently became the street department supervisor and has been doing both jobs at once. Rutherford said he appreciates the opportunity and is looking forward serving the city in his new role.
“I like to, you know, help the community,” Rutherford said. “You know, it’s not all about just, you know, enforcement but it’s also about giving people the right tools to get where they need to be and make things better.”
Rutherford said he has an extensive background working in facilities operations and maintenance for large tech companies. He said he also has a lot of experience with the aspects of government related to buildings.
Rutherford said he lived in Tennessee in the past but has lived all over the nation since then. Hayes said Rutherford was selected out of a pool of six applicants who were interviewed and ranked with the city’s grading system.
“I went to the leadership team along with Mayor-Elect Lori Elder Burnett and conducted interviews, and the one that was selected was Mr. Walter Seaborn Rutherford,” Hayes said.
