Clay Resident Creates First Seal

A Clay County resident has designed the county’s first seal to better represent the county.

Clay County Assistant Administrator and Title Six Coordinator Carol Rettig created the seal, with ideas from community members. Rettig said parts of the seal, such as an eagle, represent the best parts of the county.

“We all love our eagles,” Rettig said. “I went a couple of times on the lake and people were telling me how they were seeing an eagle fly over the lake. One time I saw it and it was just breathtaking, so I wanted to include that.”

The seal also features a fish, deer, mountains, and trees all around an outline of Clay County. Rettig said that she designed multiple seals and left it up to the County Commissioners to vote on which one they thought best represented the county.

“I think I ended up with eight,” Rettig said. “Then we narrowed it down to three and I took it before the commissioners because I wanted them to do the voting, not me. I couldn’t pick.”

Rettig said she took the responsibility to design the seal as the county had talked about getting a county seal but could not find one. Rettig said she was proud of herself for being able to help the county out.

“I’m honored really,” Rettig said. “I didn’t think I could it, but I wanted to try it and I was blessed to make something for everybody. Now we can show it off and let all the counties see it.”
