Dekalb Pastors Pray For Upcoming School Year

The DeKalb Ministries Association will come together Sunday to pray for a successful school year.

Local pastors annually meet at the DeKalb County High School Gym on the day before the first day of school. Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church Pastor Isaac Gray said the prayer meeting blesses the well-being of the schools.

“We believe there is no better thing to do than plead for god’s mercy, grace, protection, and guidance over every aspect of our school calendar,” Gray said. “And every minute detail of our school system.”

The association has held the back-to-school prayer meeting for well more than a decade. Gray said local pastors getting together for one initiative exemplifies the unity in the community.

“I think we tend to forget that when it comes to our churches we are not on different teams,” Gray said. “We are all on Jesus’s team trying to win people to his kingdom, and so anytime we can show unity or togetherness it’s a good thing.”

Gray said the prayer meeting has seen good turnouts with people coming from various churches in the community.

“This is a very Christ-believing community,” Gray said. “So many people in our community believe in the power of prayer and the importance of prayer.”

Pastors will meet at the gym and then disperse to different schools within the county to pray at each school building. Students, parents, and staff members are encouraged to attend. The back-to-school prayer meeting will be Sunday, beginning at 2pm.
