Overton Highway Superintendent Retiring

Overton County Highway Superintendent James Norrod stepping down after twelve years with the department.

Norrod said he made the decision not to run for another term because he plans to retire and did not want to run again at seventy-one years old. Norrod said his employees have been a great crew that will hate to see him leave.

“I would hope they would say that I’ve done a good job, and I feel like I have,” Norrod said. “We’ve covered a lot of ground and I’ve tried to work in all areas of the county.”

Norrod said he is looking forward to retirement. He said he believes any of the candidates looking to be the next highway superintendent in Thursday’s election would do a good job if elected.

“If the new ones need any help, all they’ve got to do is call on me and I’ll do all I can to help,” Norrod said.

Norrod said there was not a lot of discussion when he made the decision because it was understood that the time has come for him to move on. He said he would have been 75 had he run for another term. Norrod said he did not want to work that long. Norrod said he plans to spend his upcoming free time taking bus trips, enjoying the lake, and traveling in his RV.

“Of course, I’ve put things off at home for fifty years, so I’ve got plenty to do,” Norrod said.

Norrod will step down from his position August 31.
