Smithville Food Pantry Moves To New Location

God’s Food Pantry in Smithville has moved to a new location, at the corner of South College Street and East Bryant Street.

The nonprofit assists by providing food, clothes, and financial help with bills to those in need. The pantry will still provide emergency 24/7 services. President Pat Zornow said e pantry operated in a much smaller temporary location since May. Zornow said the new location will provide the space the pantry needs.

“If you came into the pantry and saw you would see freezers and refrigerators all over the place,” Zornow said. “Thirty-something of them. In the interim space that we had we only had like seven freezers and three refrigerators. We couldn’t fit into 1,000 square feet, so it allows us to provide to the people whatever their need is.”

The food pickup process on pantry days will stay the same as those in need can drive up to collect essentials. Zornow said the first pantry day was a success.

“It was fine, we also access the service of the city police,” Zornow said. “So they were in charge of traffic control and setting it up and assuring as they always have, that people get into the pantry and it is a smooth entry and exit out as far as driving.”

Zornow said it was important for them to stay within Smithville as it is more accessible than other locations.

“Many of our people when they come to the local pantry, especially on pantry days we find that there might be two, three, or four families in one car,” Zornow said. “And this is going to increase as the financial issues in our country get greater.”

Zornow said the move is nearly complete as they are waiting for some phone lines to be repaired within the building. Zornow said all are welcome and she would like to help everyone.
