Tech Fundraising For New Baseball Facility

Tennessee Tech Athletics in the process of fundraising to renovate the baseball and softball indoor training facility dubbed the “Hack Shack.”

The facility has been in use for over 20 years and only has two hitting/pitching bays and is not climate controlled. Athletic Director Mark Wilson said that the new facility is the next step in making Tech baseball the best program in the Ohio Valley Conference.

“Quality facilities are very important in terms on training your student athletes and giving them the best opportunity to improve their individual skills on a daily basis,” Wilson said. “It’s an important, you know, source of pride with student athletes here and certainly it’s critically important in recruiting.”

The new facility will double in size and include four hitting/pitching bays, higher ceilings and central air. The project does not have a timeline yet.

“We do not have a projected finish date, it’s as soon as possible,” Wilson said. “This facility will be 100 percent fundraised for, working with our friends of Tennessee Tech baseball and our baseball alum. So it’ll really be contingent on how quickly we can fundraise and then go through the state of Tennessee approval process. And get the final design done and get it built.”

Along with the “hack shack” remodeling, Tech is continuing to fundraise for the football operations center and the renovations to Tucker Stadium. Wilson said that strong connections with donors goes a long way.

“Connections are very important. It’s important for, you know, coaches and the athletic administration to build long term, genuine relationships with our alumni,” Wilson said. “So when you do have a need, then they understand that need and how critically important it is to a team.”
