Putnam TCAP Scores Show Improvement

New data released Tuesday show TCAP growth and improvement for Putnam County students.

The results showed improved proficiency in most testing categories from previous years. The district also surpassed state averages in almost every category. 5-12 Curriculum Supervisor Bubba Winningham said the data will guide the district’s continued improvement efforts.

In math for grades three through eight, students saw an overall increase from 2023, moving from 44.6 percent in 2023 to 48.6 percent in 2024. Third through eighth-grade science students moved from 42.8 percent in 2023 to 44.2 percent in 2024. In social studies, students showed an overall increase in grades 3-8. Students improved from 36.4 in 2023 to 40.7 percent in 2024.

Students also displayed encouraging results with 2024 EOC assessment data. Students showed increases in Biology, English 1, and English II.

K-4 Curriculum Supervisor Diana Wood said she is thrilled by the results. She said the growth is evidence of a bright future for Putnam County Schools.

Recently received Spring 2024 3rd and 4th Grade TCAP ELA scores indicated a 3.1 percent increase from last year, with 46 percent of 3rd graders demonstrating proficiency on the ELA portion of the TCAP assessment. Putnam County students also showed growth in 4th grade, with a 5.0 percent increase from last year, with 49.7 percent of 4th graders demonstrating proficiency on their ELA portion of TCAP.

Winningham said the results reflect the dedication of teachers, staff, and administrators, as well as the students themselves.
