Dogwood Park Fountain Reopens Tuesday Morning

The Dogwood Park fountain reopened Tuesday morning for the first time this summer, following months of repairs.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said significant leaks were discovered last year and the fountain limped through the end of the summer. He said the fountain was dismantled to fix plumbing, fixtures, and piping. With the park’s centerpiece back in working order, Woods said this has been a long time coming.

“We were hoping to have it open earlier this year, but it’s been delayed and slowed,” Woods said. “And now, we’re finally at the point that we are ready. It’s good timing because it’s very hot and this is cool water and will be refreshing, and I hope people will come out and enjoy it.”

He said acquiring the right type of stone was the biggest delay. The fountain opened at 9:00am Tuesday and will be open daily, from 9:00am-10:00pm through the end of October.

“It’s been a delay that has been an inconvenience for the public and for us,” Woods said. “We’ve wanted it open as well, but we appreciate everyone’s patience with it and it’s finally time that we can open it and everybody be refreshed and celebrate.”

He said when the correct type of stone was finally identified, the department had to have it cut to its specifications, and then transported. Woods said both of those steps took time. He said removing the central column of the structure and the large bowl on top were lengthy processes as well.

“It’s just been a long time coming, but it’s finally here,” Woods said.
