A state grant of some $4.5 million will fund a 100,000-square-foot speculative building at Crossville’s Interchange Business Park.
Crossville Chamber CEO Ethan Hadley said the building will be the “bait on the hook” to recruit a new business or a company looking to expand. He said offering land to businesses looking for a new location is easy, but the ability to provide companies with a facility like this one is not so common.
“We all know how explosive the growth has been in our state,” Hadley said. “So yes, it’s primed for… it will allow us to realize a lot more interest and visits and prospective investors that have a look at our community.”
Hadley said the building will also have room to double in size if a company chooses to expand. He said construction will start in early July and he expects the structure to be completed by the end of 2025.
“The way that projects move these days if you’re working with a company or consultant, there are accelerated timelines,” Hadley said. “And many times, they will send a request for information to an economic development body such as us, saying, ‘We need, we’re looking for an existing building of existing square footage that has these other specifications that will allow us to move quickly.'”
He said the timing makes sense for the city as well. He said on the I-40 corridor between Nashville and Knoxville, the park is also served by U.S. 127 North, which is being expanded to five lanes.
Hadley said bidding the project is the next step in the process.
