Monterey is splashing into summer fun with it’s popular splash pad in Whitaker Park.
The splash pad was built in 2020 with the help of Putnam County using grant money to fund the project. Cultural Administrator for Monterey Rafferty Cleary said the community has really enjoyed the splash pad.
“The community has responded really well to it,” Cleary said. “Obviously amenities like a splash pad, community pool, anything that provides some comfort and some relief from hot days like we are experiencing today actually, is always a plus to have in the community.”
The splash pad was originally built with a foam like material at the base but since has been replaced with concrete. Cleary said the county has done a great job maintaining the splash pad.
“The county has just done a wonderful job of making sure they maintain the equipment, the pumps, and the structure itself,” Cleary said. “And so again its really nice to have and we certainly like showing it off when the summertime rolls around.”
Cleary said the town has taken great care of the splash pad.
“Occasionally we will have some vandalism that will pop up here and there,” Cleary said. “We address it as it occurs, but for the most part our community has done a wonderful job of protecting the splash pad here in town.”
Cleary said currently the splash is semi-functional but it will have some maintenance done by the end of next week to make it fully functional.
