Algood City Council denied a request to rezone 1.18 acres at West Church Street and West Washington Street.
Developers wanted to build four homes on the property. G&C Properties requested a change from Low Density Residential to Medium Density zoning, an increase of one home. Council voted unanimously to turn down the proposed change.
“Four houses, to me, is too much for that little piece of property,” Council Member Ronald Graves said. “It’s a low piece of property, and you’re going to jam them right in there together. And I just don’t see the reason to change anything myself.”
The Algood Planning Commission deadlocked 3-3 on the proposal at its last meeting. Even without a recommendation, City Council still had to consider the request.
A similar request came before the council over the last few years.
