Kristian Mansell will serve as Livingston’s new street and sanitation supervisor.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the position opened because previous supervisor Wayne Peek is retiring. Hayes said a leadership team was put together to handle the interviewing process and grade each applicant.
“Had five applicants,” Hayes said. “Four showed up. And we or I am prepared to recommend Mr. Kristian Mansell as the street and sanitation supervisor, and the committee supports that as well.”
Mansell previously worked as the city’s building inspector.
The board also appointed Billy Oliver as Mansell’s assistant supervisor. Hayes said the board has never appointed a department assistant in the past.
“We don’t tell the police chief who needs to be the second command there, I don’t tell the sewer plant who needs to be second command,” Hayes said. “These are folks that work with these folks on a daily basis. And if we are absolutely, by voting on this, we are stripping the supervisors of that power. We are setting a precedence of that. I’m not against what Mr. Langford is saying. Please understand that.”
Alderman David Langford said Oliver has worked with the city for twenty-seven years and is highly qualified for the role.
“I think he’ll be a great help to Mr. Mansell,” Langford said. “I don’t care who you are, if you come into a position, believe it or not, you don’t know everything.”
Mansell said he has no issue with using Oliver as his assistant.
