Tennessee Tech surpassed its goal of $40 million in research funding a full year ahead of schedule.
President Phil Oldham told the Board of Trustees Thursday the University doubled its research dollars in five years, something Oldham called an ambitious goal. He said reaching that number represented a “tremendous accomplishment.”
“The credit goes to all the faculty and support staff that have written the proposals and created the great ideas and put in the sweat equity to make that happen,” Oldham said. “So congratulations to everyone. But it absolutely shows that we can compete with the very best in the country in all aspects, including research.”
Oldham said the University reached the 2025 goal Monday, with two months left in the spring semester. He said the University planned a celebration of the milestone.
“We may wait till the end of the fiscal year, until we get the final numbers on what we end up with, because we’ve still got a few more months in this fiscal year,” Oldham said. “But we will plan a celebration and make sure that we invite the board.”
