Tennessee Tech’s Society of Physics Students chapter recognized with an “Outstanding Chapter Award” from the chapter’s national office.
The chapter has seen major growth in the past year, adding some 15 of its 20 members during that span. Associate Physics Professor Adam Holley said this is the highest award a chapter can achieve. He said less than 15 percent of chapters nationwide receive this level of recognition.
The chapter held lake days, movie nights, and a solar eclipse watch party in an attempt to gain membership. National accolades for the previously unheralded group serve as proof that the campus outreach has paid off.
Formed in 1968, the Society of Physics Students has some 820 chapters on campuses across the country.
