Fallen Trees, Scattered Damage Reported Across White County

High winds caused numerous fallen trees across White County, but no major damage.

EMA Director Matt McBride said most of the trees have been cleared for county roadways. McBride said a few structures have been damaged by falling trees with more expected to be reported as people get home from work at the end of the day.

“We’re not seeing anything necessarily widespread or, or one necessary path, which I think we’re basically dealing with nothing but pretty much straight-line winds or gust,” McBride said. “We’ve had it in each corner of the county at this time, or all parts, I would say. And like I said again, they’re very sporadic, nothing major.”

McBride said most of the local fire and rescue teams has been out trying to help the county highway department clear trees from the roads.

McBride said he thinks the wind is going to die down as the temperature drops throughout the night. He said people should stay inside until the winds decrease if at all possible.

“I understand you want to get out and maybe see what kind of damage, but wait until the winds die down preferably in case of anything that didn’t come down or fall, we don’t want something like that coming out,” McBride said.

McBride said citizens should stay in their vehicle if they are blocked by a fallen tree or any other debris, especially if there are power lines nearby.

“We don’t you trying to determine whether it’s an electrical or if it’s phone or cable or internet,” McBride said. “We would prefer you stay in a vehicle and let, just make the call. Call 911. Let the professionals come out.”
