Vol State College Foundation Seeking Sponsors For February Gala

The Vol State College Foundation wants to help Upper Cumberland students who need help with books, supplies or certifications.

The Foundation will sponsor a February Hearts and Minds Gala to raise money for so-called gap coverage. Cookeville Campus Director Lori Richards said business should sponsor the event to invest in the region’s future.

“It’s very rewarding to see our kids in the community be able to have a worthwhile career and to get the education needed for some of those careers,” Richards said.

The fund also provides free dual enrollment at Vol State for Pickett, Overton, Clay, Putnam, Jackson and Smith County high school students. The Hearts and Minds Gala will take place February 10 at Cody Hall at the Cookeville Campus starting at 5pm.

“We’ll have social hour for networking, hors D’oeuvres, just mixing and mingling kind of stuff,” Richards said. “It’s a formal event, so maybe if you don’t have something going on on Valentine’s and you are looking for something to do with your sweetheart. There will be dinner at six and followed by entertainment, and we have for our entertainment DJ $even spinning some records.”

Richards said attending the event is also important to help build the Upper Cumberland Fund. Tickets to attend the event are $75.

“We’re basically trying to ensure that future generations of students in the Upper Cumberland can pursue their education avenues without having to worry about funds,” Richards said.
