The Cumberland County Playhouse has announced its 2024 season schedule with a theme focused on togetherness in achieving goals.
Producing Director Bryce McDonald said this is the playhouse’s 59th season. McDonald said since announcing the schedule, his phones have been ringing non-stop with residents trying to get their tickets early.
“We kind of try to come up with a theme for every season,” McDonald said. “And this year we decided that our theme would be our 2024 season is a tapestry woven together with music, mystery, diversity, laughter, hope, and inspiration.”
McDonald said he will be opening the season in February with Disney’s “Finding Nemo Junior.” The schedule includes theater classics “Steel Magnolias” and “Grease.” Ticket packages for the 2024 season are now available.
The overall season theme, McDonald said, was inspired by all of the working parts that go into presenting a theater production. McDonald said while discussing theme ideas for the season with staff, an employee working in development pitched the winning tapestry theme.
“We were like, ‘this is it, this is what we were meant to do,’” McDonald said. “So it just kind of all really fell into place by just sitting around and having a conversation with each other. And it just feels perfect.”
McDonald said in many ways he thinks the theater is much of what is needed to help mend today’s society.
“I’m a firm believer that art heals and that we need art,” McDonald said. “We need a chance to have a collective experience and that’s what theater is.”
McDonald said in addition to theater, the Playhouse is also gearing up to host a well-curated concert season. McDonald said the Playhouse still has two TBA dates for plays that are waiting for creative licensing requests to finalize.
