Fentress County Halloween On The Square Returns Tuesday After Hiatus

The Fentress County Hope Foundation will host their Halloween on the Square event Tuesday for the first time since 2019.

More than 20 businesses will decorate tables and give out candy to Fentress County trick-or-treaters. COVID sidelined the event. Hope Foundation Board member Kim Davidson says the group is excited to bring back the event to offer people a festive opportunity.

“It’s just a good opportunity to get that community to come together,” Davidson said. “To visit with the businesses, to meet your neighbors, and like a lot of counties, a lot of new people have come in.”

Davidson said the event provides a safer way to do trick-or-treating. She said it can be a bit more difficult when you do not know your neighbors or your community.

Davidson said she has been encouraged by the engagement from the community and the businesses that will be involved with the event.

“In years past, we’ve had to do quite a bit of reaching out and invite them,” Davidson said.  “This year, we’ve had a lot that have reached out to us and said, “Hey put my name on the list. We want to be there and we want to be part of this.” That’s very encouraging.”

The event’s return from COVID restrictions will be everything that people remember, Davidson said. She said that with the increased engagement, the Hope Foundation will only grow the event from this point, citing hay rides and costume contests that are already planned for future events.

The event is from 5pm-8pm Halloween Night. The event will feature music and live entertainment.
