Obituaries For Friday, October 20

Mr. Edward Lee Shearer, age 83, of Monroe passed from this life on Wednesday, morning, October 18, 2023, from the Celina Health and Rehab Center. He was born October 17, 1940, in Taft California, to the late Alan Dale Shearer, Sr, and Iva Marie McDonald Shearer. Edward served his country in the Coast Guard from 1960-1964. He was a true family man, who loved his family. Edward loved his cats, going dancing, and enjoyed being part of the American Legion and Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Edward leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Ann Snavely Shearer of Monroe; daughter, Delise Elizabeth Shearer of Henderson, NV; grandchild, Ethan Michael Shearer of Essex Junction VT; several nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his son, Robert Edward Shearer, sister, Marilyn Cravins, and brother, Alan Dale Shearer. Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Edward Lee Shearer will be held at a later date.

Michael Thomas Perssico, 70 of Cookeville, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Michael was born Wednesday, April 15, 1953, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Paul Frederick Perssico, Sr. and Theresa (McGarry) Perssico. Michael was a loving son, brother, father, Grandpa, uncle, and friend. He loved football, especially the New York Giants. Michael was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Michael is survived by, 2 Sons, Mike Perssico, and Chris Perssico and his wife, Amanda; 3 Grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kendall, and Luca Perssico; 2 Siblings, Paul Perssico and Eileen Perssico; Niece, Leigh-Anne Perssico; A host of cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Perssico. Michael chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Celebration of Life for Linda Raynell Riddle, 79 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, at 6:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Davis officiating. She passed from this life on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at her son’s home. Linda was born Thursday, August 3, 1944, in Cookeville, and she was the daughter of the late Ray Harold Harmon and the late Eva Christine (Mitchell) Harmon. Linda was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, Mema, aunt, and friend. She was a member of Life Church for many years and served as a greeter. Linda was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Linda is survived by her daughter, Carla Sue Riddle, and her husband James Colon; her son, Robert Eric Riddle, and his wife Leatha; 5 Grandchildren, Heather Greaves and her husband, Kevin, Paxton Conner and her husband, Jake, Brady Riddle and his wife, Miranda, Roman Riddle, and his fiance, Kasavyn, and Jacob Colon; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Harvey and Annabelle Greaves; Siblings, 3 Siblings, Keith Harmon, Phyllis Pugh, and Lillis Matheny; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sheldon Riddle. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

A memorial service for Judith Rose Testa, age 66 of Sparta, will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located in Crossville. She passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her home. She was born February 8, 1957 in Newark, New Jersey, and she was the daughter of the late Anthony Testa and the late Theresa Lubertazza Testa. Survivors include: Daughters- Teresa Brown (Todd) and Kimberly Robinson (Eric); Grandchildren- Andrew Brown (Chloe), Cassidy Brown, Jordan Evans, and Bennett McMahon; Sister- Bonnie Neville (Mark); Niece- Megan Neville; Nephew- Nick Neville (Bryan Thomas).

The family of Arthur “Joey” Joseph Bradley, Jr., age 38 of Sparta, will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. He passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Joey was born on February 13, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, and he was the son of Arthur Bradley Sr. and Cindy Gardini. He loved cars, fishing, shooting pool, and most of all his family, and his Take 5 family. Surviving family includes: Fiancé – Kiana Caraulia; Children – Hunter Bradley, Mae- Lani Caraulia, Brooklynn Bradley, and Mason Bradley; Aunt – Sherry Leese; Uncle – Keith Leese. A host of cousins, friends, neighbors, and co-workers also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ieda Dodson Broom, age 88 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, October 21, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Stringtown Cemetery. She passed away at 11:35pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Broom was born February 19, 1935 in Campaign, Tennessee to the late Kermit William and Delma Lee Ford Dodson. She retired from Mallory with over 25 years of service. A longtime member of Bon Air Church of God, she was strong in her faith – enjoying reading her bible and watching religious programming on television in her spare time. Mrs. Broom loved cooking and crocheting for her family. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Everette Broom; her daughter and son in law Teresa Everlene and Terry Selby; infant sisters Dorothy Jean and Mary Alice Dodson. Surviving family members include her twin grandsons Trent Selby and wife Brittany, Tyler Selby and wife Amanda all of Sparta; Great-grandchildren: Tanner Selby and Kaden Selby; Brother: James Dodson and wife Jewel of Alcoa; Sister: Evelyn Mynatt of Knoxville; Nephews: Brian Hodges and wife Kelly and David Hodges and wife Dina; A host of cousins and extended relatives also survive. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00pm Friday at Hunter Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mrs. Freddie Claudean Williams Langford, age 89 of Livingston, will be conducted 12 noon, Saturday, October 21st from the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Bro. Rick Lacy will officiate. Freddie passed from this life on October 19, 2023, from her residence. She was born in Celina, on January 13, 1934, to the late Fred and Clara Arms Williams. She was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Freddie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She enjoyed having her family around at all times. Freddie leaves behind her son Roger Langford and wife Patricia of Livingston; daughter Vickie Roman of Warren, Michigan; sister Betty Ellen Butler and husband Douglas of Clayton, Indiana; sister-in-law Sandra Faye Hobbs of Florida; grandchildren Chad Flatt and wife Ginger, Misty Langford, Christopher Roman and wife Sara Beth, and Kyle Roman; great grandchildren Lee Flatt, Dakota Flatt, Chayanne Flatt, Freddie Roman, and Benjamin Roman; and great great grandchildren Jasmine Flatt and Jase Flatt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Langford; brothers R.C. Williams, Paul Williams, Lester Williams, and Little Brother Williams; sister Beulah Emerton; and son-in-law Bruce G. Roman. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

A memorial service for Donald Vincent Hynes, age 86, of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 21st at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Donald passed away on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life for William Charles Sliger, 38 of Baxter, will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00PM at the Faith Fellowship Church in Cookeville. Brother Sterl Paramore will officiate. William Charles Sliger was born in Cookeville on July 29, 1985, to Garry and Cathy (Davis) Sliger. William worked in the construction industry as a pipeline layer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Brayden Price, William Sliger and Arianna Sliger. Two Sisters & Brother-In-Law: Jennifer Hester & Patrick Cockerell, and Deanna (Sliger) Osluand. His Paternal Grandmother: Betty Bumbalough. Nephews and Niece: Nick and Gabe Hester, Kaden, Kaitlyn, and Zane Pass. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: William C. Davis Jr. and Francis Davis, Paternal Grandfather: Charlie Sliger, and Brother-In-Law: Geoff Oslund. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00PM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:00.

Funeral services for Earl Poston, 53 of Cookeville, will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home, with Bro. David Price and Bro. Fabron Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow at the Okalona Cemetery in Rickman. Earl Poston was born on May 13, 1970, in Putnam County to Roy & Virginia Faye (Underwood) Poston who survive. Earl loved Fishing, Golf, Hunting, and Baseball with a passion. He also loved his dog, Layla. In addition to his parents Roy and Faye Poston, he is survived by his fiancé Virginia Triplett of Cookeville; Brother & Sister-In-Law: Douglas & Marlene Poston of Rickman; Sister & Brother-In-Law: Peggy & Jeff Mahler of Algood; plus, a host of Nieces, Nephews, and Dear Friends. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday from 5:00-9:00 P.M. at Whitson Funeral Home.

Graveside Service for Steve Mitchell Nunley, 71 of Cookeville, will be held Monday, October 23, 2023, at 1:00 pm from the West Cemetery in Cookeville. He passed from this life on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Cedar Hills Retirement Center in Cookeville. Steve was born Sunday, September 21, 1952, in McMinnville, he was the son of the late Rice Alfred Nunley and the late Cora “Louise” (Bishop) Nunley. Steve was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Papa, uncle, and friend. He was the hardest worker, trustworthy, considerate, an animal lover, and would help anyone in need. He worked for Caney Fork Electric in McMinnville and for Upper Cumberland Electric in Cookeville. He was in the Lions Club, active in his children’s sporting activities, and active in his church. He loved Football, especially the Tennessee Volunteers and the Tennessee Titans. Steve was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Frances (Gentry) Nunley; 3 Children, Tracey Gail Gentry, Kelly Mitchell Nunley, and his wife Ashley, and Miguel Rosario and his wife, Kristy; Grandson, Ayden Layne Nunley; Siblings, George Nunley and his wife, Rose, Debbie McBride and her husband, Ronnie, Sonjia Nunley, and Bruce Nunley; Mother-In-Law, Dorothy Gentry; Brother-In-Law, Richard Gentry; Loving Pet, Kelly Jo; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his Son, James Monroe Waldie; Identical Twin Brother, Stan Nunley; Father-In-Law, Benton Gentry; Sister-In-Law, Drue Gentry; Niece, Jennifer Gentry.

Memorial Services for Sarah Ann Childress, age 80 of Sparta, will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. She passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born December 6, 1942 in Dunlap, and she was the daughter of the late Hubert Bowman and the late Edna Hatfield Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Childress, daughter, Jamie Childress, sister, Olena Shoulders, and brother, Thomas Bowman. Survivors include: Sons- Scotty Childress (Kristy) of Sparta, and Jason Childress (Tracy) of Cookeville; Grandchildren- Joseph, Tiffany, Rachel, Renae, Rebekah, Randy, Daniela, Mirandy, Shaylee, Shayna, Nevaeh, Geoffory, and Gage; 26 Great-Grandchildren; Brother- Kelly Sam Bowman of Pikeville. The family will welcome friends from 4:30 PM until time of the service at the funeral home.

A memorial service for Rosina “Rose” Fields, 85 of Cookeville, is being planned, tentatively set for Saturday, November 11 at 1 PM at Cookeville First Baptist Church. She died Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at her home. Her wishes of cremation are being honored. She was born August 1, 1938 in Sicily, Italy to the late Basil and Rose Natoli Aragona. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Erwin Fields on February 16, 2019 and a sister, Anna Kowalczyk. She was a homemaker. Rose was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church and very active in her Sunday School Class. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include sons David (Anh-Phuong) Fields of Burke, VA, Douglas (Gabriele) Fields of Albuquerque, New Mexico, sister Gracie Brooks of Michigan, brother Joe Aragona of Wisconsin, grandchildren: Andrew Fields, George Fields, Anne Catherine “Kitty” Fields, James Monroe Fields, Lukas Samuel Fields, great-grandchildren: Elysia Noel Fields and Seraphina Ophelia Fields. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until service at the church.
