Jeanne Marie Anderson, age 75 of Sparta, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at her home. Jeanne was born on December 8, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph Gallagher and the late Katherine Myers Gallagher. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jay C. Anderson Jr. Surviving family include: Children – Jay C. Anderson III (Misty), Anjanette Harward (Danny), and Kevin Anderson (Jennifer); Grandchildren – Shawn Armstrong (Ashley), Patricia Delight (Ricky), Terry Harward, Seth Anderson, Ashley Young, Jacob Anderson, and Jacob Dover; Great- Grandchildren – Cade and Jude Armstrong, Rowan Delight, and Zoe Randolf; Siblings- Tricia Gallagher, Mary Feeney, Phyllis Zecca, Eileen Antell, Michael Gallagher, Bernie Gallagher, and John Gallagher. Mr. Samuel Maurice Hensley, better known as Maurice, age 83 of Sparta, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at his residence. Maurice was born August 23, 1940 in Burnsville, North Carolina to the late Samuel and Maude Wettstein. He was a carpenter with an emphasis on home construction and remodeling. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and work endlessly in his garden but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family. Maurice was a member of Eastland Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Hensley LaFond; brother Joseph Hensley and an infant brother Royce Hensley. Survivors include his wife Betty Hensley; Daughter: Carla Hensley Michael and husband John; Son: Mark Hensley and wife Pam; Two brothers: Jack Hensley and Jerry Hensley; Granddaughter: Samantha LaFond; Grandson: Dillon LaFond; Great-grandchildren: Trenton Scrivens, Isayah Scrivens and Ophelia LaFond. Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with Maurice’s cremation and a memorial service will be conducted with a date to be determined later in the fall at Eastland Church of Christ.
Peggy Ann Leatherman, age 65 of Crossville, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 8, 2023. Peggy was born July 30, 1958 in Anchorage, Alaska to the late Charles W. Leatherman and the late Mary D. Hines Leatherman. She was formerly of Maryland, but was proud to call Tennessee home since 2015. Peggy was a free spirit who loved adventuring and traveling. Surviving family include: Sister – Jennifer L. Papp (Michael) of Crossville; Several nieces and nephews also survive. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral services for Marie Stout Roberson, 88 of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday October 11 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Vickers will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Rickman. She passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Sparta. Born on June 26, 1935, in Putnam County, Marie was a cherished member of her community and a beloved figure in her family. Marie was the daughter of the late James Arthur Stout and Pietta Worley Stout. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 42 years James Hollis Roberson and two brothers,, Earl and Ray Stout, and an infant sister. She is survived by her two devoted sons, James Perry Roberson (Suzette) and Tim Roberson (Denise). She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, and optimism will continue to inspire those who knew her and will be passed down through the generations of her family. Marie spent her professional life serving the community as a food service worker at Sycamore Elementary School. Her dedication to her work was evident in the care she took to ensure that every child was well-fed and cared for. Her warm smile and kind words made the cafeteria a welcoming place for all. A woman of faith, Marie was a regular attendee at the Praise Cathedral Church of God. She was known for her unwavering optimism, even in the face of adversity. Marie never complained, choosing instead to focus on the positive aspects of life. Her family will welcome friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Visitation with the family of Michael Evans, 61, of Cookeville, will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 12 – 2 PM at Hooper-Huddleston, & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville. He passed away on October 8th, 2023. Michael is preceded in death by his father, Harold Evans. He is survived by his mother Peggy Evans, brother Greg Evans (Susan Evans), 3 children, Sarah Cox (James Cox), Aly Mulligan (Colton Mulligan), and Will Evans, granddaughter Maggie Mulligan and grandsons Ean and Parker Cox, the mother of his children Toni Evans, special aunt Polly Turner, and girlfriend Tracy Bussell. Cheri was born Wednesday, April 21, 1943, in Waterloo, Indiana and she was the daughter of the late Ersel Ivan and Vera Mae (Robbins) Riggenbach. Cheri is survived by, 7 Children: Norman Billy and Becky Bartlett, Becca and Charlie Rhine, Ward and Lisa Bartlett, Betsy Jo and Jim Sornig, Rachael and Billy Craig, Lanny Bartlett, and Michael and Suzanne Bartlett; 27 Grandchildren; 34 Great-Grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Connie Malcolm, Veramae Cheryl Irelan, Ersella Winters, and Sela Adams; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. He passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. John was born on May 5, 1944 in Sparta, to the late Roy Null and the late Nola Mae Price Null. He was a farmer in White County all his life. Survivors include: Wife- Sandra Roberts Null of Sparta; Daughter- Sonya Null Duke of Doyle; Son- Michael Null of Sparta; 5 Grandchildren- Derrek Parrish, Jacob Duke, Daniel Duke, Holden Null, and Matthew Null; 4 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters- Betty Sue Null Brown of Sparta, and June Null Matthews of Lebanon; The family will recieve friends on Wednesday from 12:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family of James L. Lacy, 92, of Cookeville, will receive friends Wednesday October 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. He died October 4, 2023. He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated public servant, successful businessman, and devoted family man. He was born on October 14, 1930 in Cookeville to Lee and Nell Lacy. He graduated from Cookeville High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Claudine Carrington, that same year. Mr. Lacy leaves a legacy of public service with a reach spanning from Cookeville to nations around the world. He mentored dozens of young men by managing Little League Baseball in Cookeville for 17 years. He was one of the most successful coaches of the era, leading his teams to numerous league titles. He served two terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1971-1975. A long-time member of the Cookeville Rotary Club, Mr. Lacy was also very active in Rotary International, a leading service organization, for over 50 years. He led a Group Study Team of Rotarians on a six-week trip to Great Britain in 1977 and was elected to the Board of Directors of Rotary and the Rotary Foundation. From 1998-1999 he served as President of Rotary International. In that capacity, he and Claudine traveled to Rotary Clubs and Meetings on six continents representing the organization. His tenure focused on improving the lives of children around the world. His greatest contribution, however, was as a more than 30-year leader of Polio Plus, an initiative by Rotary to eradicate polio in developing nations around the world. Mr. Lacy was instrumental in getting the program started, helping inoculate children across the globe and in obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars of funding for the program. Finally, James Lacy was a devoted family man. He and wife Claudine were married for two months short of 75 years at the time of his passing. They were members of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. He took an intense interest in his son’s and daughter-in-law’s lives and was a fabulous mentor. His hobbies included reading and sports, especially following Tiger Woods, the Tour de France and the Kansas City Chiefs. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Claudine, son Bill and daughter-in-law Susie of Olathe, KS and brother Alvin and wife Barbara of Sparta, and sister-in-law Rowena Lacy of Hickory, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David. Private graveside services will be held at Cookeville City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville Rotary Club, P.O. Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Mae Holloway England, age 92 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Sparta First Freewill Baptist Church with burial in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville Community. She passed away at 11:18am Monday October 9, 2023 at her residence. Bessie was born August 16, 1931 in the Calfkiller Community of Putnam County to the late Dallas & Nicie Foster Holloway. She was a loving homemaker and proud preacher’s wife. Her ministry was being by her husband’s side for the countless Freewill Baptist Churches he served in Middle Tennessee and throughout his 62-year radio ministry. Bessie was a nurse to her family in time of sickness, always willing to feed and take care of everyone. She will forever be remembered for her chicken and dumplins, buttermilk pies, and having her camera in hand. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, David Lee England who died February 12, 2021; grandson David Curtis England; sister Aline Johnson and brother Cordell Holloway. Survivors include her three sons: Lester (Ramona) England, Manuel (Annette) England all of Sparta, Michael (Donette) England of Stuart, FL; Six grandchildren: Matthew (Emily) England, Marcus (Rachel) England, William (Lauren) England, Drema (Zeb) Allison, Meghan England and husband Devin, Lauren England and husband Luke, Logan England; Great grandchildren: Katie, Mason, Creed, Braelyn, Lochland, Remington, Thomas, Emma, Abe and Patton; Brother: Delbert Holloway. Funeral Services for Margaret Faye (Clarke) Threet, 80, of Breese, Ill., formerly from Monterey, will be conducted on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Pastor Horace Oxendine will officiate with interment to follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, and grandmother. She quietly went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 6, 2023. Margaret was born September 3, 1943, in Lumberton, North Carolina to Nancy Clark. She was later adopted into the Locklear Family, who raised her. As a young adult she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married the Love of her life, the late McKinley Threet Jr., on March 6, 1965. Together they had two children Michael and Michelle. After the death of her husband, Margaret moved from Tennessee to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. Most people are only lucky to have one great love story, however Margaret was blessed with two. She married the late Kneeles M. Reeves on October 30, 2003 in Chandler, Oklahoma. Her love for the Lord and her family were evident to everyone she came in contact with. She was selfless and always willing to lend a helping hand. You could often find her cleaning, organizing or running around with her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by, her son Michael and wife Kathryn Threet, of Choctaw, Okla.; daughter Michelle and husband Hector Soto of Aviston, IL.; five grandchildren, Kristen and husband Charles John of Sulphur, Okla., Tyler and wife Kimberly Soto of Fairview, IL, Bradley Threet of Choctaw, OK; Ashlynn and husband Corey Drost of Vanderbilt, MI.; Cordero Soto of Tampa, FL; six great-grandchildren, Liam and Jax Soto, Sadie John, Kadence Threet, Payton Yeskey, and Oliver Baker; her three sisters; Pamela Bramble, Regina Bell, and Billie Jean Revels; and many nieces and nephews. William Charles Sliger was born in Cookeville on July 29, 1985, to Garry and Cathy (Davis) Sliger. William worked in the construction industry as a pipeline layer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Brayden Price, William Sliger and Arianna Sliger. Two Sisters & Brother-In-Law: Jennifer Hester & Patrick Cockerell, and Deanna (Sliger) Osluand. His Paternal Grandmother: Betty Bumbalough. Nephews and Niece: Nick and Gabe Hester, Kaden, Kaitlyn, and Zane Pass. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: William C.
