Funeral services for Mr. James David Oakes, age 57 of Columbia, Tennessee, a native of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. He passed away Saturday evening October 7, 2023 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. David was born March 31, 1966 in Sparta. A 1984 graduate of White County High School, he was a member of the tennis team and drummer in the Marching Band. In fact, his love of playing the drums would continue throughout his life. He worked as a carpenter where his eye for meticulous detail provided well for him and his niche in the finishing details of a home. David loved spending his extra time at his family’s cabin with his girls and grandchildren, where he enjoyed tinkering on the cabin and fishing. David will always be remembered as an instant friend to those he met, fun and encouraging to everyone, always leaving them with an enthusiastic YERT! Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his four daughters: Halle Oakes, Ellah Oakes, Summer Gray and husband Sam, Peyton Barron and husband Robby; Grandchildren: Anabelle Gray, Bennett Barron, Barrett Barron, Georgia Owen and Grayson Oakes; Parents: Jim and Sandra Oakes; Brother: Robert Oakes and wife Sylinia; Nieces: Laney Crosland and husband Cole, Sophie Clark and husband Kade; Mother of his children: Michelle Oakes. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Marie Stout Roberson, 88 of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday October 11 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Vickers will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Rickman. She passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Sparta. Born on June 26, 1935, in Putnam County, Marie was a cherished member of her community and a beloved figure in her family. Marie was the daughter of the late James Arthur Stout and Pietta Worley Stout. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 42 years James Hollis Roberson and two brothers,, Earl and Ray Stout, and an infant sister. She is survived by her two devoted sons, James Perry Roberson (Suzette) and Tim Roberson (Denise). She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, and optimism will continue to inspire those who knew her and will be passed down through the generations of her family. Marie spent her professional life serving the community as a food service worker at Sycamore Elementary School. Her dedication to her work was evident in the care she took to ensure that every child was well-fed and cared for. Her warm smile and kind words made the cafeteria a welcoming place for all. A woman of faith, Marie was a regular attendee at the Praise Cathedral Church of God. She was known for her unwavering optimism, even in the face of adversity. Marie never complained, choosing instead to focus on the positive aspects of life. Her family will welcome friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Funeral Service for Cheri Lee Bartlett, 80 of Novi, Michigan, and formerly of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with son Ward Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. She passed from this life on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at her home. Cheri was born Wednesday, April 21, 1943, in Waterloo, Indiana and she was the daughter of the late Ersel Ivan and Vera Mae (Robbins) Riggenbach. Cheri is survived by, 7 Children: Norman Billy and Becky Bartlett, Becca and Charlie Rhine, Ward and Lisa Bartlett, Betsy Jo and Jim Sornig, Rachael and Billy Craig, Lanny Bartlett, and Michael and Suzanne Bartlett; 27 Grandchildren; 34 Great-Grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Connie Malcolm, Veramae Cheryl Irelan, Ersella Winters, and Sela Adams; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to her parents, Cheri was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Luke Bartlett; 2 siblings Vernon Holtrey and Carolyn Butts. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
Graveside services for John Franklin Null, age 79 of Sparta, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. John was born on May 5, 1944 in Sparta, to the late Roy Null and the late Nola Mae Price Null. He was a farmer in White County all his life. Survivors include: Wife- Sandra Roberts Null of Sparta; Daughter- Sonya Null Duke of Doyle; Son- Michael Null of Sparta; 5 Grandchildren- Derrek Parrish, Jacob Duke, Daniel Duke, Holden Null, and Matthew Null; 4 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters- Betty Sue Null Brown of Sparta, and June Null Matthews of Lebanon; The family will recieve friends on Wednesday from 12:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family of James L. Lacy, 92, of Cookeville, will receive friends Wednesday October 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. He died October 4, 2023. He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated public servant, successful businessman, and devoted family man. He was born on October 14, 1930 in Cookeville to Lee and Nell Lacy. He graduated from Cookeville High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Claudine Carrington, that same year. Mr. Lacy leaves a legacy of public service with a reach spanning from Cookeville to nations around the world. He mentored dozens of young men by managing Little League Baseball in Cookeville for 17 years. He was one of the most successful coaches of the era, leading his teams to numerous league titles. He served two terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1971-1975. A long-time member of the Cookeville Rotary Club, Mr. Lacy was also very active in Rotary International, a leading service organization, for over 50 years. He led a Group Study Team of Rotarians on a six-week trip to Great Britain in 1977 and was elected to the Board of Directors of Rotary and the Rotary Foundation. From 1998-1999 he served as President of Rotary International. In that capacity, he and Claudine traveled to Rotary Clubs and Meetings on six continents representing the organization. His tenure focused on improving the lives of children around the world. His greatest contribution, however, was as a more than 30-year leader of Polio Plus, an initiative by Rotary to eradicate polio in developing nations around the world. Mr. Lacy was instrumental in getting the program started, helping inoculate children across the globe and in obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars of funding for the program. Finally, James Lacy was a devoted family man. He and wife Claudine were married for two months short of 75 years at the time of his passing. They were members of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. He took an intense interest in his son’s and daughter-in-law’s lives and was a fabulous mentor. His hobbies included reading and sports, especially following Tiger Woods, the Tour de France and the Kansas City Chiefs. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Claudine, son Bill and daughter-in-law Susie of Olathe, KS and brother Alvin and wife Barbara of Sparta, and sister-in-law Rowena Lacy of Hickory, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David. Private graveside services will be held at Cookeville City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville Rotary Club, P.O. Funeral Services for Margaret Faye (Clarke) Threet, 80, of Breese, Ill., formerly from Monterey, will be conducted on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Pastor Horace Oxendine will officiate with interment to follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, and grandmother. She quietly went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 6, 2023. Margaret was born September 3, 1943, in Lumberton, North Carolina to Nancy Clark. She was later adopted into the Locklear Family, who raised her. As a young adult she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married the Love of her life, the late McKinley Threet Jr., on March 6, 1965. Together they had two children Michael and Michelle. After the death of her husband, Margaret moved from Tennessee to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. Most people are only lucky to have one great love story, however Margaret was blessed with two. She married the late Kneeles M. Reeves on October 30, 2003 in Chandler, Oklahoma. Her love for the Lord and her family were evident to everyone she came in contact with. She was selfless and always willing to lend a helping hand. You could often find her cleaning, organizing or running around with her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by, her son Michael and wife Kathryn Threet, of Choctaw, Okla.; daughter Michelle and husband Hector Soto of Aviston, IL.; five grandchildren, Kristen and husband Charles John of Sulphur, Okla., Tyler and wife Kimberly Soto of Fairview, IL, Bradley Threet of Choctaw, OK; Ashlynn and husband Corey Drost of Vanderbilt, MI.; Cordero Soto of Tampa, FL; six great-grandchildren, Liam and Jax Soto, Sadie John, Kadence Threet, Payton Yeskey, and Oliver Baker; her three sisters; Pamela Bramble, Regina Bell, and Billie Jean Revels; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was the father of her children McKinley Threet, Jr., also Kneeles M. Reeves; her sisters Annie Lois Oxendine, Carrie Lee Lowery, Mary Catherine Spaulding, Margie Locklear, and one brother Roscoe Hunt. Her family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM.

Entombment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. She passed from this life on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Patty was born Thursday, April 14, 1949, in Washington, District of Columbia, and she was the daughter of the late Dominick Chiaro and the late Mary (Caponiti) Chiaro. Patty was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She loved flowers and animals. Patty is survived by her husband of 46 years, Fred Marsh; 4 Children, Elizabeth Ann, Richard Anthony, William Noble, and Thomas Douglas; Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Sister, Rose Marie Cox; Brother, Joseph Chiaro; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by, 2 Brothers, Paul and John Chiaro. A memorial service for Judith Rose Testa, age 66 of Sparta, will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located in Crossville. She passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her home. She was born February 8, 1957 in Newark, New Jersey, and she was the daughter of the late Anthony Testa and the late Theresa Lubertazza Testa. Survivors include: Daughters- Teresa Brown (Todd) and Kimberly Robinson (Eric); Grandchildren- Andrew Brown (Chloe), Cassidy Brown, Jordan Evans, and Bennett McMahon; Sister- Bonnie Neville (Mark); Niece- Megan Neville; Nephew- Nick Neville (Bryan Thomas).

A Celebration of Life for William Charles Sliger of Baxter, will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00PM at the Faith Fellowship Church in Cookeville. Brother Sterl Paramore will officiate. William Charles Sliger was born in Cookeville on July 29, 1985, to Garry and Cathy (Davis) Sliger. William worked in the construction industry as a pipeline layer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Brayden Price, William Sliger and Arianna Sliger. Two Sisters & Brother-In-Law: Jennifer Hester & Patrick Cockerell, and Deanna (Sliger) Osluand. His Paternal Grandmother: Betty Bumbalough. Nephews and Niece: Nick and Gabe Hester, Kaden, Kaitlyn, and Zane Pass. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: William C. Davis Jr. and Francis Davis, Paternal Grandfather: Charlie Sliger, and Brother-In-Law: Geoff Oslund. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00PM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:00.
