New Christmas Fair Event Planned For November To Provide More Family Fun

What about some fair fun during the Christmas holidays?

The Putnam County Fair Board has announced a new event set for November 17 and 18. “Christmas at the Fair” will feature motor sports event, vendors, music and a visit from Santa. Fair Board Vice President Susanna Clouse said the idea has been in the works for several months.

“Just kind of being there for our community and doing events for our community, that’s our goal behind everything, is to create events that people enjoy going to and people want to attend,” Clouse said. “And so we try and have lots of different things. But the driving force behind the Fair and the reason why all the Fair board volunteers their time is the community.”

Clouse said fair board members talked to promoters they work with during the August fair run and found November as a slow time. The fair season winds down as October comes to a close. Combine that with the way people respond to motorsports events locally and the event seemed like a natural.

“I think it’s the excitement of the excitement of the events,” Clouse said. “It really gets people’s attention. It’s something fun that you can do with your family here locally.”

The interest in more family-friendly events continues to increase, Clouse said. The Fair Board added a May carnival several years ago which has proven to be a big hit following the end of the school year.

“We have a lot of new families in Cookeville, a lot of people starting to have families, and of course, we’re growing exponentially,” Clouse said. “A lot of those are young families moving in. So I think that’s going to continue to be something that we strive for and look for in our events, is something that is family focused.”

Motorcycle races will take place Friday night. Saturday’s event will feature several classes of bump and run as well as demolition derby. Clouse said other events are still in the planning phase.
