Long-Standing Hanging Limb Horse Ring Sees Improvements; More To Come

The Hanging Limb Horse Ring is undergoing upgrades as it prepares to host a car show on Saturday.

President Jesse Bowman said the Horse Ring is a community center just as much as its a place to show horses.

“Even though it’s called the horse ring, its open to any kind of event,” Bowman said. “If somebody wants to put their own car show on or somebody looking for a place for a rodeo. Anybody is welcome to the ring.”

Bowman said the Horse Ring has gotten an upgraded freezer and deep fryer for the concession stand. Volunteers also fixed windows that were stuck shut and replaced the door.

“We had a volunteer,” Bowman said. “She don’t want her name being mentioned. She helped remodel the bathrooms. We went through and redid all them. New commodes, new sinks, painted. We just have to take those small steps, because like everything else, costs are so high right now.”

The Horse Ring has been around since the 1960s, but seemed to lose popularity as time went on. Bowman said eight years ago he held a horse show at the Horse Ring to raise money for his son’s class trip. He said after that he just kept holding other events at the Horse Ring and donating money to different causes.

“Every time we have an event, we pick a group to give some money to,” Bowman said. “We donated money to the school from our Easter event, fish fry we donated money to the fire department. We try to pick a little individual group like that’s needing money and help them out.”

Bowman said the Horse Ring is still a work in progress but will be ready for the car show on Saturday. There are also events planned at the Horse Ring for October, November and December. Bowman said the next set of improvements he wants to make is to the area where horses are shown.
