Obituaries For Friday, September 1

William “Bill” Royce Shields, 75 of Baxter, died Wednesday morning, August 30, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 22, 1947 in Wartburg. He was a Navy veteran. Bill retired as a machinist with City of San Francisco, California with over 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Montalbano Shields, and a daughter, Michelle Davis. Survivors include daughter, Charlotte (Billy) Sloan of Baxter; brother, James Russell Shields of Wartburg; grandchildren: Samantha Brinas and Jason Archung, Dominic (Bryanna ) Brinas, Jeremy Davis and Blanca Cruz; great grandchildren, Mia Davis Cruz and Olivia Archung. Services will be held at a later date.

Funeral services for Ricky Boyd Wheeler, age 64 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with Bro. Andrew Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He passed from this life Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born Friday, May 29, 1959, in Cookeville, he was the son of the late Carmel Boyd Wheeler and the late Reba Anderson Wheeler. Ricky is survived by his loving wife, of 40 years Frankie Darlene Wheeler of Cookeville. 1 daughter and son-in-law: Angela and Richie Chaffin; 1 son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Heather Carr; Grandchildren: Kylie, Alyssa, Avarie Chaffin, Brittany Carr, Sydney Stacey, and Bralee Anding; Great grandchildren: Mason and Atlas; Sisters and spouses: Sherry and James Scott, Beth and Tom Brown; Nephews: Andrew Scott, Caleb Brown; Aunt: Bobbie Jean Dennis. Several cousins and close friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 1, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Johnnie Marie Watkins-Holman, age 85, of Hermitage, and formerly of Overton County will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Howard Dailey will officiate. Burial to follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. On August 30, 2023, Johnnie Marie Watkins-Holman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away courageously after recently celebrating her eighty-fifth birthday. She was surrounded, supported, and loved by family and friends during her transition. Johnnie was the daughter of Clyde and Ruby Watkins and had six brothers, Earl, Billy Ray, Paul, Jack, Fred, and Rick Watkins, and five sisters, Mary Joe, Betty, Janie, Brenda, and Patricia. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Kenneth Holman of Hermitage; daughter, Cindy Monsue and son-in-law, James of Mt. Juliet; son, Chad Holman and daughter-in-law, Jill of Cedar Hill; and an extensive number of nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother “Ginny” of Jessica Whitaker, Blaine and Lauren Holman, and even prouder great-grandmother of Camden Littlejohn and Preston Whitaker. The family will welcome friends on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, Johnnie’s wish was to have donations made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

A celebration of life for Cindy A. Scritsmier, 63 of Gainesboro, will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Gainesboro Bridge Church at 4 P.M., with Pastor Ken Lewis officiating. The family has chosen cremation. She was born June 11, 1960, in Rochelle, IL, and she passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at her residence in Gainesboro. She was the daughter of Lorraine Cratolo and the late Phil Cratolo. On August 15, 2013, she was married to Fred E. Scritsmier, who survives. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, Paw Paw Bible Church in Paw Paw, IL, and Gainesboro Bridge Church in Gainesboro. Survivors include her Husband: Fred E. Scritsmier of Gainesboro; Daughters: Nicole Manley of Roselle IL, Regina Dyrda of Houston, TX, Corinne Dyrda of Glendale Heights, IL, and Dava Dyrda of Roselle, IL; Brothers: Al Cratolo, Ron Cratolo, John Cratolo, and Danny Cratolo; Sister: Brenda Cratolo of Lombard, IL; Mother: Lorraine Cratolo of Lombard, IL; Grandchild: Willow Dyrda; and other relatives. Memorial donations may be made to the Gainesboro Bridge Church by contacting the funeral home.

A celebration of life for Richard Arnold Tiebout, age 83, of Cookeville, will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 2nd, at The River Community Church. The interment will take place in Memphis. Pastor Steve Tiebout will officiate. Richard went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Richard was born July 2, 1940, in Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Erma Tiebout, his siblings Charles Tiebout, Barbara Hake, and Priscilla Rouse, his first wife Brenda Tiebout, and his second wife Judy Tiebout. He is survived by his daughter Deanna Numbers (John) and their children Courtney Numbers, Sydney Craven (Spencer), and Joe Numbers. Richard is also survived by his son Steve Tiebout (Melissa) and their children Steven Tiebout, Seth (Olivia) Tiebout, Joy Tiebout, Lydia Tiebout, Luke Tiebout, and Leah Tiebout. He is survived as well by his stepson Eric Moreland and siblings Robert (Lil) Tiebout, Pat Holley, and Janet Agee. Richard retired from International Harvester and The University of Tennessee in Memphis. He was a car enthusiast and spent many evenings in the garage helping others with their cars and building his 32’ Chevrolet. Richard lived most of his life in Memphis, while only living recently in Cookeville with his son and family. In his last years, he enjoyed spending time with family, sharing his love and knowledge of cars with others as well as attending The River Community Church and having the opportunity to hear his son, Steve, preach on Sundays. Richard’s life is a testimony of the goodness of God who is faithful to all who desire to be in relationship with Him. Richard enjoyed supporting some of his grandchildren who have served at Lighthouse Christian Camp over the years. His family will receive friends on Saturday, September 2nd, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the church. Funeral services for Donald Eugene Haney, known affectionately as Gene, 94 of Cookeville, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday September 3 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Wade Givens and Reverend Henry Amirkhanian will officiate. Graveside services and interment will be at a later date in Beavercreek Township Cemetery in Beavercreek, OH. He passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023, at Cedar Hills Senior Living in Cookeville. Born on June 9, 1929, in Putnam County, to Thurman Claude Haney and Allie Mae Madewell Haney, Gene lived a life of dedication, integrity, and warmth. Gene was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Frances Conley Haney; and his siblings JP Haney, Lebert Haney, Elise McNeal, Carmen Haney, and Mae Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by second wife of 64 years, Dona Vee Haney, son, Rodger Dale Haney; and great-grandson, Christopher Lloyd Haney. Gene is survived by his grandchildren, David (Lisa) Haney, and Roger (Rachel) Haney, great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kimberly, Andrew, and Ryan Haney; his sister, Gayle Livingston; and many extended family members. Gene’s professional life was marked by a remarkable 30 year career at General Motors, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication. His retirement was well-earned, but he never lost the industrious spirit that defined his career. Gene was an outgoing individual who never met a stranger. He had a knack for making people feel comfortable and valued. His honesty and hardworking nature extended beyond his professional life and into his personal relationships, making him a cherished friend and neighbor. His family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time.

Funeral Services for Nina Mae Brown, age 85 of Byrdstown, will be held Thursday Sept. 7, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. from the Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Henry Colbert officiating. Burial will be in the Moody Cemetery. She passed away on Sunday August 27, 2023 at her residence. She was born April 4, 1934 in Pall Mall to Mack and Helen (Moody) Brown. She was a past employee with ITT Communications. Nina Mae is survived by nieces, nephews and friends. Nina Mae was preceded in death by her Parents: Mack and Helen Brown; (4) Sisters: Ruby Smith, Irene Kerney, Alma Williams and Jill Peterson; (2) Brothers: Glenn Brown and Kirby Brown. The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Chapel on Thursday Sept. 7, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service at 1:00 P.M.
