Gainesboro Elementary Counselor Selected for State Advisory Council

A Gainesboro Elementary School counselor said she hopes her new role as a member of a state counseling board will help the school.

Tisha Snyder now serving as a member of the Tennessee School Counseling Advisory Council. Snyder said she will use this role to advocate for Gainsborough Elementary School and schools like it.

“There’s are challenges that are unique to a rural school system and getting the community involved in that process of educating our kids and making sure they have the resources and the things that they need,” Snyder said. “A lot of times, the school system themselves cannot provide that alone.”

The Tennessee School Counseling Advisory Council is a committee of 65 counselors from across the state who advocate for counseling programs that support students. Snyder said she already has a few specifics to advocate for.

“Provide resources, and more school counselors,” Snyder said. “One of the big pushes is to lower the ratio of students to school counselors to better serve the students.”

The Tennessee School Counseling Advisory Council will be meeting at the Tennessee Counselors Conference later this month.
