Patricia Gail Goff, 68 of Cookeville, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born Sunday, January 30, 1955 in Milan, she was the daughter of the late Hallie Goff and the late Ruby Pratt Goff. Pat so loved her Lord and all of her children. She enjoyed the outdoors, planting gardens and flowers. She enjoyed cooking for her family utilizing the vegetables she had grown. Pat watched many nature shows, especially having to do with animals. She also enjoy just sitting and watching the many humming birds thrive and come and go from her feeders. She was a scuba diving instructor in Florida, West Tennessee and Alabama, teaching hundred of water enthusiasts. Pat is survived by 1 son Jeremy (Felicia) McAlister Cleveland, TN; 2 daughters Melissa (Michael) Dodson of Cookeville, Stacey (Mike) Dietz of Cookeville; 5 grandchildren Nikki O’Brien, Hunter Edwards, Kadence, Kelsey, and Kimber McAlister; 2 great- grandchildren Mason and Remy Edwards; 3 siblings, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother. Pat chose cremation and the family followed her wishes. There will be a private family memorial service in Cleveland, TN at a later date.
James “Jimmy” Darryl West, 69 of Baxter passed away Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023 at his home. He was born February 13, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to James West of Baxter and the late Joyce Marie Waller West. Jimmy was the owner/operator of Jimi’s Heating and Cooling of Baxter. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, painting and spending time with family and friends. Survivors in addition to his father include wife of 50 years (Married December 17, 1972) Rhonda Lowe West of Baxter; daughter, Toni (Allan) Paradis; son, James “Jamie” (Jill) West all of Crossville; sisters, Christy Palmer and Mary Myatt both of Baxter; grandchildren: Miranda (Tyler) Begley of Dayton, Ohio, Corey West of Cookeville, Chelsea Sanders of Crossville, Lauren West Dunn of Cookeville, Stevie Paradis and Hank Paradis both of Crossville; nieces, Brandi Myatt of Baxter, Aimee Palmer of Texas; nephew, Andrew Myatt of Baxter. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Graveside services for Ricky Edmon Howell, age 66 of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Ricky Howell was born in Cookeville, on October 29, 1956, to the late Orville and Opal Geneva (Morgan)Howell. He worked as a Boat Mechanic in the Boating Industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Katina Kennedy. He is survived by four cousins and spouses: Kelvin Howell, Larry (Freida) Morgan, Bobby (Lynda) Morgan, and Tommy (Sheryl) Morgan. No visitation will be held at the Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for James Richard Dunn, age 56, of Sparta, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Seth Price officiating. Burial will follow at Elrod Cemetery. He passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 26, 1967, in Cookeville to James D. Dunn and the late Yvonne Roberts. James enjoyed fishing, his family, his dog, Bo, and his cat, Cali. In addition to his mother, James is preceded in death by two grandsons, Lucas and Everett Harbaugh. Survivors include: Wife: Denissa Dunn of Sparta; Daughters: Destiny Harbaugh (Tyler) of Carthage; Amanda Dunn (Richard) of McMinnville; and Daesha Madewell (Kevin) of Sparta; Son: Dakota Dunn (Katy) of Sparta; Grandchildren: Layla, Ansleigh, and Samuel Cunningham; Tristan, Brayston, and Lincoln Harbaugh; and Baby Dunn to arrive soon; Parents: James and Rosie Dunn of Sparta; Siblings: Randy Dunn, Timothy Brock, and Melissa Pope. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Michael “Mike” Heren Maynard, 78 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, August 19 at 1 PM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cole-Peterman Cemetery in Overton County with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Maynard passed away Wednesday night, August 16, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1945 in Livingston to the late Armel H. and Eliza Gertrude Reed Maynard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Linda Lawrence. Michael was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was retired assemblyman in a factory. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include wife Heather Maynard of Cookeville, daughter Megan Maynard, sons Mahlon Maynard and fiance Danielle Neal, Michael Reed Maynard and wife Ashley all of Cookeville, grandchildren; Brantley Maynard, Lizabelle Maynard, William Maynard, Hunter Walker, Jaxson Puckett and one on the way, Kingston Stamps, niece Ceren Farr-Richardson. The family will receive friends Saturday after 11 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home for funeral expenses.

Mrs. Barbara passed away from this life at Overton County Health and Rehab on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. She was born in Hilham, Tennessee on November 29, 1938, to the late William Zina and Mary A. Mullins Dale. She enjoyed hunting arrowheads, ginseng, and crocheting. She loved working in both her vegetable and flower gardens, and canning her vegetables from her garden. She loved her family dearly. Mrs. Barbara is survived by daughters, Cathy Taylor of Monroe, Angie Choate and husband Clifford of Livingston, and Billie Chaffins of Monroe; grandchildren, Donna Kernell, Amy Reagan, Amanda Dyer, Brandon Choate, and Jade Swallows; great-grandchildren Alexander Choate, Cliff Choate, Bryce Choate, Adam Clark, Aren Prince, Harper Prince, Rebecca Reagan, Ashley Reagan, Dustin Dyer, Bryar Swallows, and Cort Swallows; great-great-granddaughter Tilly Clark; brother Donald Dale of Livingston; and sister Ova Robbins of Rickman. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband Horace Long; second husband J.W. Shipwash; son Paul Long; brothers Duvone Dale and Dennis Dale; and granddaughters Michelle Long and Heather Kernell Prince. Cantrell age 67 of Byrdstown, will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in Allred. He passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at his residence. J.T. Cantrell was born on Friday,December 30, 1955 in Allred to the late Ross and Pearl (West) Cantrell. He loved being in the outdoors and spending time hunting and fishing. He enjoyed UT football, wrestling, and Nascar. J.T. was dearly loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Survivors: 2 Daughters: Amanda her husband Michael Graff and Katy and her husband Cody Smith; 5 Grandchildren: Parks Graffs, Owen Graff, Kylee Smith, Ember Graff, and Amelya Smith; 3 Brothers: Lillard and wife Glenda Cantrell, Lucky and wife Lola Cantrell, and Ronald and wife Denise Cantrell; 1 Sister: Judith and husband Ricky Beasley; Mother of his children: Trudy Cantrell. A celebration of life for Barbara Jeanne Wright Burnett 81 of Cookeville will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 20, at St. Michael’s Episcopal in Cookeville She passed away at home on Aug. 17, 2023, at age 81. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Virginia Wright. She was raised in Los Angeles CA and moved to Cookeville in the mid-1960s with her parents, siblings, and late husband, CJ Burnett. She worked as a bookkeeper and tax practitioner and was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. She is survived by her daughters Dessa Hix and Rebecca Brady and her son-in-law Ben Brady of Cookeville, her grandchildren Lillian Brady LaDuke and Brandon LaDuke, Grant Brady, Elijah Hix, Duncan Brady, Camille Hix, and CJ Brady, and by one great-grandson, Theodore LaDuke, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Nancy Hargis and her son Chuck Burnett Jr. and is survived by her brother Danny Wright of Topsail Island, SC. Barbara loved music and had a lovely singing voice. She sang with the choir at St. Michael’s Episcopal and with Mastersingers Community Chorus as long as her health allowed. She had a gift for hospitality and entertaining and loved hosting afternoon tea parties with her family and friends. She loved to cook and her grandchildren will miss her mac and cheese casseroles. She was also talented in many handcrafts including sewing, embroidery, quilting, crocheting, and tatting lace. Barbara was generous with her love and her time and leaves a rich legacy in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and friends, many of whom knew her as Babo or Auntie Babo. She loved gardening and planting flowers around her home and was happiest when she was taking care of someone or making something for someone. Visitation will follow at 3pm at the church. In lieu of flowers her family requests memorial donations be made to the Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville TN 38501, or to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
Funeral Services for George Jay Carroll, age 93 of Sparta, will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. He passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his home. He was born August 28, 1929 in Fenton, Michigan, and he was the son of the late Clarence and Zada Carroll. He was co-owner of Mt. Side Auto Parts for several years. He later became a truck driver hauling steel. After retiring, he enjoyed hanging out at the YMCA and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Carroll and son, Ron Carroll. Survivors include: Daughters- Renee Rojas of Madison, AL and Rechel McManus (Chris) of Sparta; Son- Robert Carroll (Kathleen) of Dearborn, MO; 10 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; Sister- Shirley Carroll of Lowell, MI; Daughter-in-Law- Beckie Carroll of St. Petersburg, FL. The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 12:00 PM until time of the service at the funeral home. Funeral Services for Wilma “Jean” Johnson, age 91 of Sparta, will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Johnsons Chapel Cemetery. She passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Bailey Manor in Cookeville. She was born April 26, 1932 in Dekalb County, and she was the daughter of the late Beecher and Willie Mae Turner Edmonds. Wilma loved to sew. She retired from Fisher Body in Detroit where she was an interior seamstress. Jean also worked at the Sparta Shirt Factory prior to moving to Michigan for work, as many others did during those years. After retirement, Jean and Huston returned to the Falling Water community in Sparta, where they enjoyed their lives together. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Huston Johnson and brother, Estes Edmonds. Survivors include: Sons- Roger Johnson (Kathy) of Sparta, and Gary Johnson (Karen) of Sterling Heights, MI; Grandson- Eric Johnson (Koni); Granddaughters- Melissa Thompkins (Brent), Jessica Fox (Jason), Devin Ptaszynski (Joe), Jennifer Hall (Joe), and Robyn Higgs; 11 Great-Grandchildren; Sister- Sheila Patterson (Troy) of Calhoun, GA; Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will welcome friends on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home. Funeral services for Larry Dan Herron, 80 of Silver Point, will be Monday, August 21 at 1 PM at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 AM until service time at the church. Pastor David McMinn will officiate. Mr. Herron died Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at his home, after a valiant fight with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 29, 1942 in Harlingen, Texas to the late Aaron and Roxie Hice Herron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Herron. Larry was a retired instrument tech in the refinery business. He was an active member of Heavenly Host Lutheran Church, serving on the property committee and taking care of audio. He enjoyed photography and spending time time with family and friends. Survivors include wife of 60 years (Married June 22, 1963) Joyce Christian Herron of Silver Point, daughters Melissa (Frank) Waterer of Gainesville, GA, Cristine (Casey) Brewer of Tomball, TX, grandchildren: Corinna (Mike) Lyon of Cheshire, CT, Cody (Alyson) Edwards of Ellisville, Missouri, Miranda Brewer of Huntsville, TX, Blaine Brewer of Tomball, TX, great-grandchildren: Amabel Edwards and Poppy Lyon.
