Blackburn Met With Van Buren County Residents Tuesday On Concerns

Infrastructure and the water supply are among the top issues facing Van Buren County today according to county citizens.

Senator Marsha Blackburn met with officials and citizens Tuesday as part of her ongoing efforts to visit constituents across the state. Blackburn said it’s important to make this annual pilgrimage to each county in the state.

“And it is wonderful to actually be on the ground and talk to people and local elected officials,” Blackburn said. “And what a great turn out we had here in Van Buren County today. It’s great. And of course we had the Spencer Mayor and the County Mayor.”

Blackburn said aside from infrastructure, there was a great deal of concern over inflation and the general cost of living. She said she was working on legislation to cut government spending with a goal to reduce costs for her constituent’s day to day living expenses.

Blackburn said part of what she does in her county visits is to help guide officials and citizens to the correct authority with their issues.  She said some of the issues brought up today were Tennessee Department of Transportation, some were Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and some were federal.

“And that’s why it’s so important that your local and state officials work together so that issues are going to the right area and people aren’t wasting their time with an agency that doesn’t really have the decision making authority,” Blackburn said.
