Crossville To Participate in Booze It And Lose It Campaign As Labor Day Approaches

Crossville is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to run its Booze It and Lose It Campaign, an effort to curb intoxicated driving.

The initiative will run from August 16th to September 4th and feature increased patrols and impaired-driver targeting. Crossville Police Department Detective Tyrell Lorenz said the initiative is meant to prevent accidents related to intoxicated driving–something which has seen an increase this year.

“Normally we see a rise around any of the holidays–Labor Day Weekend is no exception; this year, as a whole, we’re running at ten fatalities, which is three more than last year,” Lorenz said. “And with a couple of them being alcohol-related, we’re trying to cut down on some of these roadway incidents, especially the fatalities.”

The initiative coincides with the THSO’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, both of which are aimed at removing intoxicated individuals from the road entirely. Lorenz said their goals are really quite simple, remove dangerous individuals from the road to keep these fatalities from happening.

Lorenz said this initiative will also see the Crossville Police Department raise awareness about preparedness in situations involving drunk driving. He said people should know when they have reached their own limits, and what to do when they think someone else may be at risk.

“If you see someone who you suspect to be drinking and driving, just call 911,” Lorenz said. “If you can, stay on the phone with the dispatch, get the information that you can, and try to keep us updated as to where they are because, from the time you call to when we dispatch, they might be miles away.”

Lorenz said they have zero tolerance at any time for intoxicated driving, this initiative is just a way to demonstrate their commitment.
