New Clay Co. HS Principal Dickerson Excited For New School Year

New Clay County High School Principal Mike Dickerson says he is excited to start the new school year in his new role.

Dickerson said his career in education spans 28 years, with experience teaching in Wellness, Science, History, and ISS. He said one of his main goals for the coming year is to beat the learning curve.

“This doesn’t come with a handbook and tell you what to do,” Dickerson said. “So for myself, my goal is it’s to learn my role and try to continue what Miss Teia, who was the principal before, has already set in place.”

Dickerson replaces former Principal Teia Arms. Arms took a position as the Nutrition Supervisor at the central office.

Dickerson said as for the students, he wants to them to continue to improve and move up in state scores. He said he also wants to see them successfully prepare for their futures, whether that includes secondary education or entering the workforce upon graduation.

“I hope that I can be a mentor to the students and teach them more than anything life lessons, things that will help them more than just their education,” Dickerson said. “When they get out in life, they can be successful. That’s my goal.”

Clay County School District returns for its first day of the 2023-2024 school year this Friday, August 4th.
