City of Livingston has received a T-DOT Transportation Alternative Program grant for continued work to improve the downtown area.
Consultant Ray Evans said the grant funds go towards projects that one would not normally associate with T-DOT, such as streetscapes. He said Livingston will use the funds to improve Little Street and Cedar Street.
“Totally rebuild both of those short little segments of street switch sidewalks on the eastern side of each road as well as pedestrian lighting that will be similar to the pedestrian lighting that’s on South Spring Street next to Central Park,” Evans said. “It will also include drainage improvements as well.”
Evans said the total construction cost is some $271,000, with additional design fees of about $30,000. He said the grant program is an 80-20 match.
Evans said right now they are working to finalize contracts with T-DOT. He said once that is complete, they will have consultants start the design.
“This project is important because it’s a complimentary project to what we’re doing on South Church Street with an Appalachian Regional Commission grant,” Evans said. “That grant will totally rebuild South Church Street including putting all of the overhead utilities underground, new sidewalks, new storm drainage, etc. And this is a very complimentary project as it improves the two roadways that run between Spring Street and South Church Street.”
