Overton County School System will continue on with its maintenance agreement with Johnson Controls Planned Service.
School Board Chair Mike Hayes said they originally weren’t sure if they would want to continue this year. He said after discussing with Maintenance Supervisor Steve Mosley, it was a better idea to maintain it.
“That agreement that we approved for $24,000 is like a yearly warranty agreement with them,” Hayes said. “They come in, they provide training to our maintenance, they do preventative maintenance work with our (crews) and they ensure all of our computer systems are upgraded that are tied into the HVAC to make sure that it’s still up to standard and continuing those savings.”
Hayes said the company came in three years ago and help the school system upgrade its lighting, HVAC units, and similar utilities.
Hayes said it has been a huge help in terms of cost savings. Hayes said in year one, they have saved an estimated $50,000. He said they are working to get the most updated savings.
“That tied into a lot of computerized systems where the lights would kick off at a certain time, if it got to a certain degree it would kick off, when there’s no activity in the school then it wouldn’t be turned on,” Hayes said. “So it created a lot of savings in terms of electrical and things like that.”
Hayes said the original work was made possible through a one percent loan from the state. He said the school took out $3 million to update the controls system.
