Monterey Aldermen Vote To Repave Crossville and Ford Streets

The Monterey Board of Aldermen voted Monday night to accept a bid to repave Crossville and Ford Streets.

Aldermen reviewed previous and current bids and noted that costs had gone up. They reviewed a list of streets that needed paving and discussed which streets should be paved first. Alderman Bill Wiggins said they should start with the street at the top of the list.

“I suggest that just to get some movement that we tackle Ford now and then look at a second priority for early fall,” Wiggins said. “Before paving season expires.”

Wiggins asked about the street fund balance. He said it was important that they not deplete the fund. Finance Officer Ella Dishman said they had about $240,000 at this time with income and expenses keeping the fund at a steady balance.

Alderman Andy Garcia said Crossville Street should be repaved now because school is out and it would be easier to do the work now.

“We can do Ford and Crossville right now,” Garcia said. “If we pave both Crossville and Ford Street that’s under $130,000.”

Wiggins said he agreed with Garcia’s suggestion. He said the total would be about $120,000. After a brief discussion the board agreed to accept Rogers Group’s bid for Crossville and Ford Streets.
