Putnam County EMS Checking Car Seats Sunday Afternoon

Putnam County EMS will be checking car seats Sunday.

Child passenger safety technician Drew Swink said they will be inspecting and helping out with the proper installation of car seats. He said it is important to ensure that people are correctly installing their car seats based on the size and age of their children.

“Our number one goal is safety,” Swink said. “And this is just another service that we provide to hopefully prevent any type of injury or fatality when it comes to motor vehicle crashes, to ensure that our children are riding safely.”

Swink said Tennessee law states all children must be in some type of restraint system until they reach the height of 5’9. He said height and weight requirements for different types of restraints vary by manufacturer of both the restraints and vehicles.

Swink said the car seat check will be in the parking lot of the Cookeville Walmart on Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm. He said the Putnam County EMS plans on scheduling more of these checks in the near future.

“We have recently added over the last year three more child passenger safety technicians with our department,” Swink said. “And we are working to join other agencies around the county to get a more regular system in order to do more of these car seat checks.”
Swink said the car seat check is free and open to the public. He said they might stay later than 3 pm depending on the turnout.
