White County Veterans Museum To Honor Fallen Soldiers With Grave Marker Flags.

White County’s Veterans Museum will be giving out grave marker flags Thursday.

Museum Director Sandy Whitt said the flags are used to honor soldiers on Memorial Day. She said they are to remind people to always remember the sacrifice soldiers have made for the country.

“It’s for soldiers who were killed in the line of duty, or were missing in action or that type of thing,” Witt said. “We do give these out for folks to place on loved ones or anyone if there over a graveyard, and there are graves that are never marked for Memorial Day, they place these on the graves of fallen soldiers.”

Witt said the museum has been giving flags out for four years now. She said they will be giving out about 300 flags. She said some flags go to groups like the Girl Scouts who will be placing them at graves for Memorial Day, while others go to individuals who have loved ones who served.

Witt said the program is also a way for the Veteran’s Museum to support local families who have supported them over the years.

“This is just a way to kind of give back as the Veteran’s Museum for folks who have come by and supported us and supported the veterans of the county,” Witt said. “We just try to return a little something to the community by doing this.”

Flags will be given out Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm at the White County American Legion Building.
