Prescott South Archery Team Competing In Nationals Thursday

Prescott South Middle School’s archery team will be competing in nationals beginning Thursday.

Coach Mark Tylka said the team has worked hard to make it to nationals both as a group and as individuals.

“We had one last year that we sent to Nations as an individual, this year we’ve had three that can compete as individuals, and you have to be in the top 10 to be able to go to Nationals as an individual,” Tylka said. “And both of our teams have qualified to go to nationals also this year.”

Tylka said it was a group effort for his team to make it to the level they are at. He said the students practice 5 days a week after school in two groups, and the parents have helped out a lot as well.

“Parents have supported us by bringing the students to the tournaments, and financially they have helped support us,” Tylka said. “It’s one of the few sports that cost absolutely nothing to participate in. We provide equipment, if we need travel we provide that, so it’s a unique sport but it takes a lot of manpower and hours to get us to where we’re at.”

The National event takes place in Louisville Kentucky on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Tylka said his teams and individuals will be competing in events all three days.

‘We are shooting after lunch on Thursday, and then at 12 o’clock on Friday, and then we have a 3D team that shoots around 8 o’clock on Saturday,” Tylka said.

Tylka said people can look for updates on the Prescott South Middle School Archery Team Facebook page.
