Gainesboro’s Poke Sallet Festival returning this weekend to celebrate its 45th year.
Poke Sallet Foundation Board Member Casey Jackson said the event has shrunk over the years because of COVID and the capability to host these types of events. She said in honor of the 45th celebration, they are working to make it bigger and better than ever.
“It is incredibly special, we are so grateful to have the chance and the opportunity to continue it on in the community,” Jackson said. “It means so much to us. A lot of us grew up going to it and we have some special memories from it and we want to make sure the kids nowadays have those memories as well.”
Jackson said the event is a celebration that everything a small town like Gainesboro has to offer. She said there will be food, music, games, and traditional Poke Sallet Festival events like the poke-eating contest and the outhouse race.
Jackson said this year’s event will be at the county fairgrounds. She said this will allow the event to spread out and have more space for its 50 vendors. The free event starts at noon Friday and runs until 10 p.m. Saturday.
