Town of Gainesboro set to receive almost $2.2 million in additional TDEC funding to address aging infrastructure needs.
Mayor Lloyd Williams said the funding will help the town construct a new water plant facility. He said when plans to refurbish the old building were estimated at more than $9 million, the board of aldermen decided to create a brand new one.
“It’s going to help us tremendously, “Because we’re running at about 80 percent capacity right now. You always plan on growing some areas more and maybe working with the county and Mayor Heady and the commission and the water plant, and maybe we can work something out and expand our water services.”
Williams said the new plant will double the plant’s capacity. He said the town feels very lucky to receive these funds.
Williams said they already have the site surveyed and then will meet with TDEC to begin the permitted process. He said the hope is to have the project complete by 2025.
