T-DOT To Begin Microsurfacing Project On Highway 70 From White Co. To Cumberland

A Highway 70 microsurfacing project stretching from White County into Cumberland County starting the construction process.

TDOT Community Relations Officer Rae Anne Bradley said the project was identified after T-DOT’s annual road evaluation. She said this portion of US 70 was last paved in 2015.

“T-DOT takes a proactive approach in keeping our roads in a state of good repair,” Bradley said. “So that means T-DOT using microsurfacing on roads that are in good condition to help increase the life of the pavement.”

Bradley said the bid was originally let in February. She said the contract stipulates that the work must be completed by August 2023.

Bradley said the next steps will be to have a pre-construction meeting with the contractors to start construction. She said the contract was in the amount of some $1,380,000.

“Generally we try to use microsurfacing like this to keep our roads in good repair,” Bradley said. “So, if a road has some cracking or rutting, then microsurfacing is not a suitable treatment. So we have to treat each road as a sort of case-by-case basis.”
