City of Baxter pursuing the potential to have local commercial driver’s license training for prospective city employees.
Public Works Director John Ramsey said the city needs more drivers to operate various vehicles in several departments.
“Most every truck we have, garbage truck, dump truck, brush truck, they require a CDL driver,” Ramsey said. “We are limited to what guys we have now and we have had some guys show interest that they want to go forward with it.”
Ramsey said new federal regulations have made the process to get a CDL more difficult and time-consuming. He said this has created a hurdle in being able to get more drivers into the rotation.
Ramsey said they are hoping to find someone locally who understands the new regulations better. He said Alderman Dustin Stanton has a contact in Cookeville that they will pursue and potentially work out training that will be more convenient to those going through the program.
