Cookeville City Council agreed to sell an Old Sparta Road home Thursday night and have it removed from the property.
City Manager James Mills said the city received just one bid to remove two houses from properties the city recently purchased along Old Sparta Road. Council members agreed to a $5428 bid to sell the home at 3775 Old Sparta Road. The agreement includes removing the home and relocating it to another property.
“I was hoping we would get more than this for the house, but apparently it’s pretty expensive to move one,” Mills said.
Council also agreed to allow Mills to find a buyer and negotiate for a home at 3631 Old Bridge Road.
The city recently purchased the property from Hope Church. Putnam County holds an option on part of the land as a possible school site. The city has discussed using the land fronting Highway 111 for an aquatics facility. No decisions have been made on either piece.
In other business, council approved a public hearing for April 6 to consider the new planning commission plan to allow RV parks and campgrounds in the local commercial district, subject to rules on protecting the inner city and heavily-travelled roads. A second public hearing also approved for that night will focus on rezoning property at 186 South Willow Avenue from single-family residential to local commercial.
The council meeting scheduled for March 16 has been cancelled due to spring break.
