Spencer starting the process to find new city planner services as its current contract comes to a close.
Spencer Planner David Starnes has served the city since 2011 but plans to retire soon. Mayor Alissa Farmer said the Board of Aldermen should consider utilizing UCDD to replace his services.
“His name is Tommy Lee, and he is actually the planner for Van Buren County,” Farmer said. “I have met with him. He does the same things that Mr. Starnes does as far as the planning and zoning commission.”
Once Starnes officially retires, Farmer said the board should expect an increase in service fees. Farmer said UCDD charges about $10,000 versus the current $6,850 contract the city has.
Farmer said city planners are hard to come by, so she recommended utilizing UCDD. Farmer said she will have another meeting next week to further discuss the option.
